Things I Learned This Week

Dustin Johnson is good. The Myrtle Beach resident won his second consecutive AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am marking his third PGA TOUR victory in his third year as a professional. Only other guy to do that in his first three years on tour is some guy named Tiger Woods.

Tiger may be one of the richest guys around, but even he can’t pay for a surefire balding cure, that bald gene is one tough genetic hand me down.

Match Play may not be such a good idea for a non Ryder Cup or President’s Cup event. I mean without Phil or Tiger the event loses its luster. Without a competitive match it definitely wasn’t must watch TV this past Sunday. Ian Poulter and Paul Casey are nice players and world class, but that’s not moving the casual fans needle – nor mine anymore. I would like to see more than one guy with a chance to win something on a Sunday.

All I really want to see is Tiger play golf. I have to admit I was as titillated as the next person with Tiger’s antics off the course. However, that has gotten tired and golf is boring without TW around. For the record, Elin is an idiot if she hangs in and tries to “save the marriage.” Most marriages end in divorce for a lot less than this and usually divorce is better for all parties including the children in the long run.

CBS is heads and shoulders above the competition when it comes to their golf broadcasts. NBC and analyst Johnny Miller are good, but he can’t carry the whole team. The Golf Channel is minor league in comparison, and they need some serious help in the booth. Nick Faldo is interesting but, they need to look elsewhere for a main host – nice try with Kelly Tilghman but it clearly isn’t working. Get her back to the studio where she excels and leave the live action call to someone else.
