Everyone wants to play the best golf courses in the country. You and your group scour the internet for the best places to play, you book that tee time, and you immediately feel that rush of excitement. So imagine your feeling of anticipation when you’ve included Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in your itinerary, then see that Golf Digest has released its latest list of America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses – and see that Caledonia has been included!
Coming in at No. 85, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club joins multiple South Carolina courses such as The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, The Dunes Golf & Beach Club and Harbour Town Golf Links as among the select few Palmetto State courses to make this prestigious list. When this classic Mike Strantz design is included ahead of such renowned designs as TPC Colorado, Mid Pines & G.C. and The McLemore Club, you know Caledonia is among high company in the golf space.
Says Golf Digest, “Caledonia, the first solo design in the short, brilliant career of Mike Strantz, is an 18 shoehorned into an oak-dotted sand-dune parcel so tight that the ninth is a pitch-shot par 3 over the entry road to a wide green that’s smaller than the bunker fronting it. No room for a practice range, either. Players use the one across the highway at sister course True Blue, another Strantz gem.”
Caledonia’s one-of-a-kind design is thought provoking with winding fairways, strategic bunkers, and some of the best designed green complexes. The golf course is a great place to play year-round with lush conditions from January through December. Make sure you check out the award-winning grill, and after your round watch golfers from Caledonia’s famed back porch as they attempt to conquer the 18th hole.
